What educators are saying

We are having so much fun using this resource. We have written about our pet dragons. They got very creative! We just finished our opinions on cats vs. dogs. I didn't know I had so many cat lovers in my class. I am looking forward to our next writing project!
This was an easy resource to implement as a new teacher. I wasnt sure where to start with writing in 2nd grade and this was a great basis to build off of. Very fun and engaging for the students.

Year Long Writing Plan, Benchmarks & User Guide

    Description

Do you want to spice up your writing prompts with fun activities? This YEAR LONG writing curriculum includes 25 writing prompts covering informative, narrative, opinion and how to writing. Students will love the seasonal prompts, fun themes and exciting writing projects inside.

Year Long Writing Prompts Bundle Alignment:

The year long writing prompt bundle includes differentiated pages for kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade students. Some projects might be better suited for 1st-3rd grade. Please take a close look inside.

This writing bundle is common core aligned and provides opportunities for differentiation for both higher achieving students and struggling students. This resource is both rigorous and enjoyable for students. It is teacher and student friendly and provides a consistent model for student writing throughout the year.

    Weekly Writing Block Set Up:

Each week is set up so that students will be following the writing process all week during your writing block. Students will pre-write, draft, edit, revise, self-assess and use rubrics to grade their writing projects.

Weekly Writing Projects and Writing Crafts:

EACH WEEK students will complete a hands-on writing project with a writing craft to share with classmates and family members. These writing crafts make GREAT conversations for home-school connections. These writing projects also make wonderful weekly bulletin boards and great weekly additions to student writing portfolios.

    Differentiated Writing Crafts:

Most weekly writing crafts include two versions - one with craft pieces that can be completed using colored construction paper, scissors and glue. There is also an "easy" option in most units which includes just one single paper that needs to be colored and cut out for an easy writing craft topper. You can use the one that works best with your students.

Each Year Long Writing Prompt and Unit Includes:

    • A Teaching Guide
    • 2 Student Planning/Brainstorming Page(s)
    • Differentiated Planning Pages (3 different versions, per resource for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade)
    • Common Core Aligned Rubrics (4 different versions, per resource for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade)
    • Easy & Cute Publishing Crafts or Books (there are 2 projects that are 3-5 weeks each and include a publishing book instead of a craft)
    • Weekly Bulletin Board Crafts
    • Photo Examples

    There are 25 units included.

    Year Long Writing Curriculum Timing:

Most writing units are designed to be 5 days long, but are easily adjusted to be anywhere between one-five days in length. There are two longer writing units that can also be easily adjusted but are designed to take one month each. These are the animal habitat project (informative) and the cumulative magazine passion project (covers all writing genres, great EOY project).

Genres in the Year Long Writing Curriculum and Writing Prompts:

    • Narrative Writing Prompts
    • Informative Writing Prompts
    • Procedural or How To Writing Prompts
    • Opinion Writing Prompts
    • Descriptive Writing Prompts (similes and onomatopoeia)
    • Friendly Letter Writing Prompts

    & so much more!

Seasonal Writing Prompts and Evergreen Writing Crafts:

This year long writing curriculum includes a mix of writing projects that can be used at any time of the year (evergreen) and seasonal content. The seasonal writing projects include bulletin board ideas and crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you are unable to celebrate these holidays in your classroom, consider skipping these units.

Read Aloud Companions and Mentor Texts:

Each week has suggested read aloud companions that would serve as amazing mentor texts for the projects. Using the read aloud companions or mentor texts is not necessary, but would bring the projects to the next level! Consider renting the mentor texts and read aloud companions from local libraries to save big!

The year long writing curriculum bundle also includes:

    • Benchmark Writing Assessments for Each Genre
    • Year Long Pacing Guide
    • Suggested Book List
    • 3 Pages of Tips & Tricks for Using This Resource in Your Classroom
    • Photo Examples for the Year
