Da Vinci Projects combine ingenuity, math, and art. Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the greatest minds that ever lived. He is famous for his art, but he was also one of the most prolific inventors and mathematicians of the Renaissance Era. Da Vinci Projects require students to create something wholly original, complete rigorous mathematics, and use art as a part of their creation or an example of their understanding. The Da Vinci Project – Color by Number with Math Bundle for 8th - 10th Grades inclu

Linear Equations Real World Project for Algebra 1 | Writing & Graphing Equations

In this real world linear equations project, students are tasked with using equations to plan an international family trip. Your Algebra 1 students will need to work within their budget, create and solve linear equations, and justify their answers with mathematical evidence and reasoning.Real life applications are an essential part of any curriculum, but can often intimidate students. This activity offers scaffolding to support students as they learn to solve word problems and navigate the probl

Movie Mogul -- Power Function & Linear System - 21st Century Math Project

It’s time to journey to Hollywood! Whether your students wish to make the next summer blockbuster or an indy art flick, they will wear a number of hats as a movie producer. It will be important to make wise choices and have a degree of luck to make their films a smashing success… or a box office flop. Turn your Algebra 2 or Pre-Calculus into Hollywood think-tank and call the shots for a major motion picture in this 21st Century Math Project. In this 19 page document you will be given a mapping to

In this 90 minute project, students use their knowledge of polynomial graphs to design and analyze their own roller coaster. Students create the polynomial coaster in factored form, describe end behavior, set a realistic domain and range, and use demos to check their work. In part two, student multiply out their polynomial, and then use synthetic division to check their multiplication by verifying the roots. Perfect for one 90 minute block, or extend to two days and add a gallery walk and p

IB MYP Assessment - Criterion D Projectile Motion

This is an IB MYP (year 5) assessment for criterion D, real-life application. If at a non-MYP school, it works as a great project or class activity. Students complete a lab to demonstrate the properties of projectile motion in the context of quadratic functions. They then use their data to make predictions and justify the accuracy of their solutions. It makes for interesting conversation about the parameter of what solutions are acceptable in the context of real-life problems involving physics.

Zombie Games! (Factoring In Class project.)

This fun game is for practice with factoring polynomials. There are 6 stations that each have a factoring focus. By solving the station puzzle the student gets another digit to the code box, which has the cure inside. Designed for team play in class but other ways can be adapted. Answer key is included. I have tons of fun with this.
