Cooperative Learning Biomes Lesson Plan
This lesson may require two periods, one for research and one for hands-on work. Students are assigned to groups, pick topics out of a bag and research details on websites that are provided. They use art paper for illustrations and post-its for details. They combine their efforts on chart paper, divided into quarters. It is an opportunity for students to learn about environments and ecosystems that are unlike the ones where they live.

The students will use what they have learned about ecosystems and animal adaptations and life cycles, to create an animal that could survive in one of the ecosystems: Rainforest, Tundra, Grassland, Desert, Forest, Taiga, Fresh Water, or Salt Water. This multiple day, project based lesson, also integrates with reading, writing, and art. The students will make a poster using Reading Text Features.
