This 3D solid volume formula review page includes:Rectangular PrismTriangular PrismCylinderPyramidConeSphereThe chart includes a space for students to identify the base of each figure and its area formula. Therefore, when they see V=Bh for volume of a cylinder, they can also reference the area of a cylinder's base. An example of each 3D figure is included for students to calculate its volume.A chart is included for students to complete, along with a completed chart.

This activity combines math and art to help students practice calculating volume. In this project, students build a three-dimensional "sculpture" out of any materials they choose. Then, they calculate the volume by measuring each part of their sculpture and using appropriate formulas. I have been amazed by the projects my 8th grade students have created for this assignment. The guidelines and rubric are included in the download. You will receive a PDF and an editable word document. I requi

Challenge students to design a bird feeder and calculate the volume in this task. Students use rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, pyramids, cylinders, spheres, and/or cones to create their design. Then they show calculations for finding the volume. This task can be used as individual practice, group work, or even extended into a project. Thank you for your interest in this resource from Rise over Run. This yummy lesson on volume of cones was once my day-before-Thanksgiving-break stand-by, but now, given the popularity of The Hunger Games, it seems to make sense any time of year (not that I’ve ever heard a child complain about an out-of-place seasonal theme when food is involved). For this lesson, you’ll need a copy of the handout for each student. (For teachers who use interactive notebooks, there is an optional cover for you to copy on the other side of the handout for a quick and easy fol

Ready to practice volume with your students? This activity/project will get your students in groups and creating a Robot using nets of 3D figures. For more scaffolding, I provided pre-printed nets of different shapes enlarging them or shrinking them to give them a variety of sizes. For more STEM/Honors classes, I showed them how to make it on their own so they could create their own sizes. This was a great application project to put at the end of the year before review for State Testing.

In this set of Tic-Tac-Toe Four in a Row cards, students practice finding volume to try to shade four squares in a row. The set consists of one card for each of the following geometric solids: rectangular prisms, prisms with a regular polygon base, cylinders, cones and pyramids with a regular polygon base). Choose which shapes are appropriate for your students. You just need to copy a card for each pair of students and place each in a page protector. It is more fun and engaging than a worksheet.
