About Me
I’m Mr. Hehn, and I’ve developed some excellent materials for my classroom throughout my 7 years as an elementary public school teacher that I’d love to share with you. I like to incorporate dancing, singing, and listening to music into my lessons. My project, NUMBEROCK, is a collection of music videos that teach/reinforce mathematical concepts that include posters and lesson plans to make learning math fun in a whole new way.

Lyrics

One hundred eighty-nine hens are inside,
and nine hundred eighty-five are outside.
To find how many hens are in the coop,
we’ve gotta know how to add and regroup.
Nine and five’s fourteen; write four; the ten carries.
One plus eight is nine, plus eight is seventeen.
Keep the seven; the hundred regroups.
Two plus nine is eleven, “cock-a-doodle-doo!”

We mathematicians
add with precision,
regrouping tens or hundreds when
we find double digits in addition.

Five hundred ninety-seven ants above ground,
plus nine hundred eleven ants underground.
Seven plus one is eight; nine plus one is ten.
Each one of them is my special insect friend.
Zero stays on the floor; the hundred heads next door;
the sum is getting close, so I add once more.
One plus five is six, plus nine is fifteen.
My little brother thinks they’re a good source of protein!

Sometimes we make errors—it’s inevitable,
but check your work, and it’ll be indubitable!
The best way to check your addition
is by subtraction—the inverse operation.
Take either addend, and subtract from the sum.
If you get the other addend, your work is done!
When presented with a triple-digit problem,
Numberockers always check after we solve them!
