FULL UNITS
Units are phenomena-based and follow the 5E Model. You'll find investigations, original text, video clips, CER examples, models, quizzes, and vocabulary cards.
LIFE
Start with your study of what plants need. Rather than learning facts about plants, students figure out what plants need to survive.
Build on what your students know about plants with food webs and keystone species.
Complete a study of fungi and decomposers. Rather than learning facts about fungi, students figure out why some fungi live in animal wastes.
This BONUS lesson will help you anchor student learning about the movement of matter and energy and needs of plants. Rather than just learning facts, students figure out why sunflowers follow the Sun.
MATTER
This lesson will help you anchor student learning about matter and gases. Rather than learning facts about food webs, students figure out how hot air balloons work.
Continue your study by exploring the physical and chemical properties of matter.
Students figure out how they can determine the identity of an unknown substance.
Use simple investigations to explore chemical reactions. Students figure out how mixing two substances can form a new substance.
Students conduct investigations to figure out that matter is conserved.
SPACE
Start with your study of space by learning about changing shadows and Earth's motion. Investigate shadows and changing daylight to learn why shadows' length and position change throughout the day.
Continue your study of space by exploring the apparent brightness and relative distance of stars to learn why we see the Sun during the day and other stars at night.
Learn about the effects of gravity and engineer a parachute.
EARTH
Start with your study of the interaction between Earth's spheres by exploring weathering by plants, wind, and water.
Continue your study by exploring Earth's hydrosphere, the distribution of water, and the water cycle. Students will explain why so little of the Earth's water is available for drinking.
Complete your study of Earth by explaining how the interactions between Earth's spheres impact microclimates.
