Description
This Developmental Psych (Unit 9) Parenting Style worksheet examines authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative parenting. Students are given various scenarios and must decide how each type of parent would respond. I showed a couple of clips before we started to review the parenting styles. I listed my examples below. I also included the memory tricks on the worksheet that I use with my kids to help them remember the various styles. Questions about these parenting styles have ended up on practice or released exam. My students had a lot of fun with this activity and we had a great discussion afterwards about how they plan to parent in the future.
We spent about 45 minutes on this activity when you added in the clips at the beginning and discussion at the end. I did not include an answer key since answers could vary.
You could also use this activity in a Child Care/Parenting course as well.
Red from That 70s Show-Authoritarian
Mean Girls "Cool Mom"- Permissive
Dudley's Birthday Party from Harry Potter- Permissive
10 Things I Hate About You Dad- we discussed if he was Authoritarian or Authoritative (could argue either)
