NEWLY UPDATED July 2017

This packet will help your first and second grade students learn, understand, and practice using the science terms used when talking about spiders. It also will provide you with resources to make your unit come to life. By integrating science and non-fiction into your language lessons, you not only create an enthusiasm in your students, but you can create the "hook" you need to engage even the most reluctant learners.

This packet includes many resources including: fully written out 5-E lesson plans, 3- part cards, pocket chart cards, (both featuring high quality pictures) student vocabulary books, center activities, posters, recording pages, science activities/projects, and so much more!

In using this pack, students will meet these objectives:

-Students will learn that spiders are arachnids.
-Students will learn where spiders live.
-Students will learn about a spider’s anatomy.
-Students will learn about spider webs.
-Students will learn the life cycle of a spider.
-Students will become familiar with a few vocabulary words: egg sac, habitat, molting, orb web, prey, silk, arachnid, spinneret, burrow, camouflage, cobweb, spiderlings, abdomen, thorax

There are many opportunities for your students to use this engaging topic to research and write about what they are learning. The packet includes activities, recording pages, mini books, activities, and more!

The 5-E lesson plans included are:

1. Is a spider an insect?
2. Why are spiders helpful?
3. Students will learn facts about spiders.
4. Students will learn about spider webs.
5. Students will learn about egg sacs, spiderlings, and the life cycle of a spider.
6. Students will identify spider adaptations.
7. Students will create spiders and write about them.

(These lesson plans are aligned to the NGSS standards as well as the TEKS.)

All lessons are presented in the 5-E format. (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate) They are written out step by step! Each lesson also comes with beautiful pictures and engaging activities to help your children understand the objectives in a hands-on way. Many of the lessons also contain links to videos and resources to use while teaching the lesson!
