What educators are saying

This was very helpful in providing students with the ability to understand the topic and how philosophy and ethics work.
My students loved using this activity. It broke up our unit on Ancient China and gave them something fun to do that also helped them to learn!

Description

Students will divide up roles, and one student will be the Historian, in charge of creating an outline for the team (handout with directions for students included) of the information on the handout. A second student is the Developer - they are in charge of creating a visual aid or picture that will be shared with the rest of the class regarding their philosophy (more directions included in plan). A third student is the Researcher, and this student will investigate more about how their philosophy is present in the world, where it is most prevalent, and how it compares to the philosophy born in ancient China.

**A review worksheet is also included that can be presented before each philosophy presents to "set the stage" or can be used to review all philosophies once everyone has presented!**

This lesson includes 3 reading assignments for Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism, Role Directions (Historian, Researcher, Developer), Developer Cards, a review worksheet that can be used either before each philosophy presents to "set the stage" or as a complete review, and a PowerPoint to complete the guided notes once complete!

This resource also includes a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!

-------------------

Supplement this lesson with the Common Core focused lesson, "Oh, Confucius! What do you mean?". Students interpret Confucius' quotes to understand his core beliefs! Here, "Students complete a similar activity for Laozi and Taoism!"
