Description
This is not a typical unit plan! There are over 6 weeks of engaging, interactive activities for students to complete as they explore and become part of Egyptian society. Students mummify stuffed animals, take control of their own learning in a Hyperdoc, recruit time travelers at a recruitment fair to live in their kingdom of Egypt, escape under a pyramid using Virtual Reality, and many other challenges.
INCLUDED IN THIS BUNDLE:
Ancient Egypt Social Classes - Survival Simulation: Students work in teams to complete a variety of challenges related to each of the social classes in Ancient Egypt. If they are successful, they add members to their population. However, if they are unsuccessful, they lose them. This is one of my students' favorite activities every year!
Crime Scene Investigation: King Tut's Death - Students investigate 10 short pieces of evidence to determine their own conclusions for how King Tut died. Very few things get students as excited and engaged as a crime scene!
Shark Tank: Legacy of Ancient Egypt Discoveries and Inventions PBL - Students research to learn about one of the inventions made during Ancient Egypt. Then, they present their invention to a panel of "sharks" who choose whether or not they will invest in the company.
Geography of Ancient Egypt Hyperdoc: Students develop a survival plan for the area of Ancient Egypt, organize their learning by creating a mind map, analyze a primary source from Egypt, and choose from a variety of products to create to apply their learning.
Google Earth Image Analysis: Students complete a close reading of a Google Earth image of the region around Ancient Egypt. They begin by examining the entire image, and then focus on specific parts.
Nile River Choice Board: In the Ancient Egypt Choice Board, students complete 3 products applying their understanding of Ancient Egypt. They have the option of applying their learning by creating a Blabberize, diary entry, Venn Diagram, superhero, movie trailer, Google Tour Builder, 3D model, or song, rap, or poem.
Kingdoms of Ancient Egypt Recruitment Fair PBL: Students learn so much more when they teach others, and in this case, they will persuade others! They work in groups to research one of the three kingdoms in Ancient Egypt - Old, Middle, or New. Then, they use their learning to create a recruitment fair booth. They will recruit time travelers to choose their kingdom.
Daily Life Choice Board Tic Tac Toe Menu: Students explore the daily life in Ancient Egypt by choosing between a variety of options to complete 3 in a row on the choice board. Topics include: food, children, religion, clothing, magic, entertainment, houses, and transportation.
Unification of Upper and Lower Egypt Hyperdoc: Double Crown - Students explore a variety of primary and secondary sources to guide their own learning about the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt and the creation of the Double Crown. They engage, explore, explain, apply, reflect, and share what they have discovered.
Breakfast of Egyptian Pharaohs: Cereal Box PBL - Students research to learn about various aspects of a pharaoh's life, including the rule of the pharaoh, family, personality, architecture, accomplishments, and other fun facts. Then, they use that information to make their cereal, cereal box (including a prize!) and advertisement.
Social Classes in Ancient Egypt Hyperdoc - Students explore a variety of primary and secondary sources to guide their own learning about the social classes in Ancient Egypt. They focus on the pharaohs, government officials, priests, scribes, artisans, and peasants. Students choose from a variety of activities to show their understanding of life in each of those classes.
Ancient Egypt Escape Room - This activity has 3 options for doing the Escape Room - printed materials with locks, printed materials with a Google Form, and completely digital. Students compete against the clock to think creatively to open 5 locks. Escape rooms give kids a chance to collaborate, problem solve, test their mastery of skills, and, almost just as importantly, PLAY! This escape room offers your students all of those opportunities.
This unit plan has many of the characteristics of effective instruction, such as cooperative learning, engagement, verbal discourse, student agency, integration of technology, primary and secondary source analysis, problem solving, higher level thinking, and of course, fun and memorable!
