Frequently Asked Questions:
What books do you use?
See the preview for my recommended books or download it here. Many activities can be edited to work with other read alouds.
Does it cover all the AASL standards?
It does not cover all the AASL standards. It covers: I.A.2, I.B.1, IV.A.2, IV.B.4, IV.B.1, V.C.1, V.A.1.
What themes does this cover?
Topics are story elements, book awards, fiction/nonfiction, fiction genres, and research projects. Many of the topics are the same year to year, as these skills build each year, like all curriculums do.
Can I do these lessons in 30 minutes?
K-2 lessons are a read aloud and writing or drawing activity. You can easily adapt for 30 minutes. 3-5 lessons are a combination of a read aloud and a writing and drawing activity that takes one class, and research projects that span 3-4 classes. You can easily adapt these to a shorter time or longer time.
I have hour long classes. Will these lessons cover that time?
Yes! Incorporate silent reading, check out time, read aloud, mini lesson, writing/drawing activity and free choice at the end, and you have a perfect class.
I don’t have all the book titles. What should I do?
Utilize your public library or substitute with books that are in your collection. I strive to create new, relevant, diverse read alouds so many titles are new. See the preview for my recommended books or download it here.
Will this curriculum be updated?
The curriculum went through a major update in January 2023. It will not go through any more major updates. I will create additional bundles of activities by grade level for you to purchase.
How do I know if the curriculum has been updated?
Sign up for my email list or follow me on TpT, or follow me on Instagram!
Does this include Destiny and call number lessons?
No. Each grade level has lessons on library organization where students explore different sections of the library but it does not cover Destiny or call numbers. Not every library has Destiny, and I would rather have students spend time exploring and reading than putting call numbers in order.
My students don’t have laptops. Can I still use this?
Yes! K-2 research projects have book or website options.
I don’t have PowerPoint. How do I open this?
Download the file from TpT. Unzip it. Drag to your Google Drive account. Formatting should be the same!
One of the books you recommended is out of print. What should I do?
Contact me and I will provide an updated title if the title is out of print. However, I cannot provide alternate titles if you simply do not have the books.
If this doesn’t work for me, can I get a refund?
Before you purchase, click the links to the free resources, and download the preview. I have given you many samples so you know exactly what you are getting. Again, this is NOT a digital citizenship or technology curriculum. Refunds are not offered for digital products.
