Description
Students design attractive posters that recommend choice novels they have read. This is a short assignment and the posters look amazing on display! Requirements include title, author, a 4-5 sentence "blurb", a 2-sentence "personal recommendation," 2 adjectives that describe the book, and an illustration related to the book.
My student handout is ready to copy and provides all directions, a step-by-step student checklist, and areas for a rough draft of all written requirements for the poster. I also include a "model" of the assignment, and an evaluation scale.
The students really enjoy creating these! We use a simple Word document, add a border, and then use Word Art, text boxes, and imported visuals. Students practice summarizing skills, determine two persuasive claims to get others to read the book, and refresh on adjectives and quotation marks!
I use this assignment after students have read a few novels as part of their reading workshop. They choose the book they would most recommend to their classmates--it's a great way to get kids talking about all the great books they've read!
