Description

Do your students need practice with summarizing fiction to improve reading comprehension? In this set of Boom Cards, students will read practice identifying key events and key ideas with a Latin American folktale called "El Cucuy: A Play" an adaptation based on a famous Mexican legend and then practice sorting sentences from the story that belong in a summary and sentences that do not belong in a summary. Students will also complete multiple choice questions with STAAR like question stems for summary practice a section of the reading passage and then on the whole reading passage. These self grading Boom Cards are a great practice for strategy groups, independent practice, homework, small groups or as a pre or post assessment, or to collect data for a student with a summarizing IEP goal.

  • 1 Summarizing reference sheet that you can enlarge as an anchor chart/poster
  • Draggable self grading sorting activity
  • Self grading multiple-choice questions - 2 questions about a section of the text and another question about the whole text
