What educators are saying
Description
Students use forensic evidence, teamwork, and critical thinking to solve this CSI Crime scene escape room. In the activities, students analyze 4 different pieces of forensic evidence (fingerprints, shoe prints, unknown powder, and pen samples) and keep track of evidence and suspects.
They use their power of observations to “crack the case” and prove their innocence by figuring out who really committed the crime. Great for a science class, forensics class, or just for fun!!

This activity can be done all at once in the format of an escape room to try to “beat the clock” or it can be broken up into different days/lessons for each piece of evidence.

Overview of activities:
Fingerprint analysis – Students compare fingerprints found at the crime scene to those of the suspects to determine who was at the scene of the crime.
Shoe print analysis – Students compare the shoes of the suspects to a muddy footprint found at the crime scene. To determine the brand and size of the shoe.
White powder – HANDS ON LAB ACTIVITY: Students perform chemical testing on the unknown white powder to identify it and see where the evidence leads
Ink Testing – HANDS ON LAB ACTIVITY: Student perform a paper chromatography test to determine who left the note at the crime scene.
Finally, with all the evidence, students figure out who the evidence points to.
Students are immersed in the experience by following a fun and engaging story line that puts them right in the middle of the action. As students complete each activity, they are given a code to enter to open an electronic document to move through the case. Once they have completed the final activity, they will have enough evidence to determine who did it.
The activity can be run with printed copies of the pages, or you can use a digital version that requires minimal printing.
IMPORTANT:
Your download includes 5 documents in a zip file and contains: 1 main PDF document with teacher directions and activities + 4 locked pdf documents. Students will unlock the PDF documents with codes contained in the answers to the puzzles. The passwords to these PDF documents are included in the main PDF document in the teacher directions section.
