Description
This file works best with PowerPoint. If you are using Keynote, please go to this version: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Complex-Number-Jeopardy-USE-WITH-KEYNOTE-1776083
Overview
Complex numbers Jeopardy includes 5 categories: Basics (identifying real and imaginary parts, simplifying powers of I, simplifying radicals), solving quadratic equations with complex solutions, adding/subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Questions range in difficulty from easy to hard by point value. Solutions are present for every question. All working hyperlinks direct back to the question screen. Answer sheet is printable by printing slides 9 per page.
Suggested game play
This game works well with students in teams of 4. I like to give a number 1-4 to each student in the team. Example: Team A will have students 1, 2, 3, 4; Team B will have students 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
All students solve all problems simultaneously on whiteboards. Students are encouraged to work together and agree upon an answer. When students have had sufficient time to solve the problem, randomly choose a number 1-4 and have all students with that number show their board. For example, if I call 2, all 2's show their boards. That way all students are held accountable to solving the problems, and teams can earn points on each question. Students receive no credit if they switch boards. Record points for correct answers. I do not deduct points for wrong answers.
I like to use popsicle sticks to call on a student to select the next question. Once a question has been done, the hyperlink will change colors so it will be clear which questions are still available. Continue playing like this, as time permits.
When time is almost up, it is time to move to Final Jeopardy. You can either decide how much the final Jeopardy question is worth or have teams decide how much the question will be worth. I like to add points for correct answers and deduct points for wrong answers on Final Jeopardy only.
Note
The preview does not have fully functioning hyperlinks. The real version does.
