Do you need to meet the demands of the new Common Core writing while using a variety of sources? Writing is a tricky skill to teach, but this packet can help.This is a packet of 2 paired texts from both an informational article about the signing of the constitution and a journal entry from Thomas Jefferson. These are stories are both engaging and FUN that get kids excited about learning!
There are three writing prompts included ~informative, narrative, and opinion.
This packet also includes a vocabulary sheet where student use the context clues from the story to create a definition and learning goals and scales for each writing prompt.
The articles are written on a 4th Grade level.
This set offers text-based writing practice prompts using the following essential writing forms:
✎Narrative - First Person Point of View
✎Opinion
✎Explain - Combine Ideas and Use a Timeline
The third, fourth and fifth-grade content-area topics fall under these categories:
✎Reading ~ Non-Fiction article
✎Reading ~ Historical Fictional story - First Person
✎Social Studies ~ Historical Events leading up to the American Revolution
✎Reading ~ Text Features
The set also includes the additional features:

All Third, Fourth, and fifth-grade student learning goals *Marzano* based on strand one, two, and three of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Common Core Writing Standards.
