What educators are saying

Not only was the book great but these activities made it even more engaging for my students. They followed the book perfectly and were easily adaptable and simple to use with Google Classroom/ Google Apps.
A great resource! I had a very advanced and gifted first grader who loves Diary of a Wimpy kid. These were great and full of activities for him to do.

Description

This 46-page workbook for Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid includes comprehension, vocabulary, NINE literature skills exercises (character, point of view, cause/effect, etc.), and a final assessment. This novel study is available in print and digital (with Google Slides), and has a MODIFIED version for students with special needs and lower-ability learners. Keys included.

(For PRINT ONLY, click here for the black + white PDF.)

WORKBOOK CONTAINS:

  • COVER PAGE + TABLE OF CONTENTS (2 pages)
  • VOCABULARY WORK (8 pages): 16 vocabulary terms. Workbook pages include definition matching, synonyms, multiple-choice word work, crossword puzzle (online link for digital use), and vocabulary usage.
  • BOOK WORK (19 pages): The novel is Greg Heffley's journal, so this resource's book work is organized by month. Each month has a fill-in-the-blank summary and follow-up comprehension work - short answer, T/F, and multiple choice.
  • LITERATURE SKILLS EXERCISES (11 pages): Literature skills covered: character analysis, foreshadowing, cause & effect, connecting to the story drawing activity, point of view, providing text evidence, sequencing, and movie vs book compare/contrast.
  • END-OF-BOOK TEST (6 pages): Character matching, sequencing, multiple choice, T/F, and extended response. 46 questions.

The workbook is available as a black + white PDF, convenient for printing. It's also available as a full-color PDF for those who have the ability to share PDFs digitally, like with Kami, or if you'd like to upload all or portions to EASEL by TpT. I've converted the color workbook into Google Slides with text boxes and moveable pieces already in place. No prep for you!

A MODIFIED version in print and Google Slides is included for SPED or struggling learners. Adaptations include word banks under chapter summaries, limited choices for vocabulary usage work, and condensed matching on the final test. Students who’d benefit from modified curriculum can complete this COMPATIBLE version along side peers completing the regular version. Keys included.

NOTE: The zip file contains PDF documents for printing and two links that will prompt you to "make a copy" of Google Slides. Slides will download right to your Google Drive. Google account required for this feature.

For a quick & simple resource for Diary of a Wimpy Kid that's NOT AN EXTENSIVE NOVEL STUDY, try comprehension guide fill-in-the-blank summaries on TRI-FOLD BOOKMARKS or GOOGLE SLIDES. Content from these resources (chapter summaries) are included in the workbook.
