Description

What is this product?

This poetry reference booklet is everything your middle school students need to build the knowledge to talk about poems and write better poetry! Plus, it creates a reference they can save and keep for years to come!

No more boring "look up the definitions" activities or slideshows & notes to start your poetry unit- all the defining work has been done for students, so they can jump right into understanding and applying concepts! The booklet also includes brief explanations about why poets might use each device in a poem, as well as an example of each device either written by me or in a linked published poem. The fun notebook format engages students while providing easy access to any section of the book with linked tabs along the side.

Instead of spending tons of time taking notes or looking up definitions, students spend their time engaging with and applying each of the poetic terms by finding or creating their own examples or considering provided examples and answering short guided questions. Students are exposed to a wide variety of highly engaging poetry, including several different slam poems!

This booklet is completely ready to post & go except you need to be sure to add in your own due date on Slide 2 and alter the student directions as desired for your own time needs.

For distance learning, I assigned it on a Monday and gave my students an entire week to complete (we are working on other stuff alongside it), and Slide 2 provides suggested pacing for students in a Monday through Friday format but encourages them to work at their own pace (you can modify these directions if you'd prefer a harder deadline for certain slides).

Because this product is completely editable, you can add or remove terms, replace my linked examples with your own, change the student directions or timeline, and more!
