Description
Who doesn't love hunting for Easter eggs? This is a way for students to practice recognizing rhythms in the format of an Easter egg hunt, all while trying to reveal a mystery message!
Cut out the rhythm strips and hide them in plastic Easter eggs around the room. Each rhythm strip also has a letter on it that will eventually spell out the mystery message. Students receive a worksheet with either 12 or 14 rhythms (depending on which message you choose). They find the eggs, look at the rhythm strip inside, find the matching rhythm on their paper, and write down the letter that is on the rhythm strip. Once they find all 12 (or 14) letters, they spell out the mystery message!
Included:
- 3 different rhythmic levels (quarter note/eighth notes/rest; quarter note/eighth notes/rest/half note; and sixteenth notes/eighth notes/quarter note/half note/whole note/half rest/whole rest/quarter rest)
- 2 mystery messages for each rhythmic level
- 6 mystery messages total
All sheets are in Black and White.
My classes are back-to-back, so if I want to use two or three different mystery messages for different grade levels, I color code the eggs they're in. For example, my first grade students might be instructed to look for yellow eggs, while my third grade students look for pink eggs. That way I can hide all the eggs at once, but the students aren't writing down letters from the wrong mystery message.
I hope this is a fun way to review rhythms and get your students moving!
