Elements of Poetry Unit Smart Notebook Lessons
This is a smart notebook teaching file. It includes lessons to introduce poetry and lessons to teach the elements of poetry. In this unit you will find activities that teach what is poetry, the elements of poetry--rhythm, sound, figurative language, and form. Sound covers rhyme, repetition, alliteration, and onomatopeia. Figurative Language covers similies, metaphors, personification, and hyperboles. Form covers lines and stanzas, as well as the different ways to write poetry (couplet, cinquain, concrete, limerick, acrostic, haiku, free verse, and diamante). Each section takes about a day to cover and includes examples, activities, and a daily quiz. This unit is great for introducing poetry to your students and can be condensed and used in one day, or expanded upon and used for around 4 to 5 days. It is great for teaching students to read and write poetry.
