What educators are saying

Used as a get-to-know you activity, then hung them from the ceiling. It was really fun and students enjoyed decorating their flasks.
Fun activity for students! They enjoyed decorating the flasks and then we made them into ornaments for our class tree! Thank you !

Description

If you’re looking for a fun and engaging science activity for the last day of school or the end of the school year, any holiday or season like spring, Earth Day, Mother’s Day, during the first or last week of school (display for Open House!), in the days and weeks before test prep, end of the year, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday, then this Chemistry Flask Craftivity is it! The opportunities are endless! Challenge your upper elementary, middle, or high school students to design a chemistry flask using facts about them such as family, hobbies, foods, and for science vocabulary, units, or topics you are learning about! Design one related to Thanksgiving or the holidays!

Ideas for use:

● Decorate the flasks and display them for Open House

● Draw and color New Years goals and resolutions

● Draw and color any holiday-related science topics

● Bring a Christmas Tree to school and hang them up as ornaments

● Display them on a bulletin board or clothespin them on a line

● Vote on the “ugliest” Christmas ornaments and give out a prize

● Offer as extra credit for students or use as a time filler

Directions: (see attached images)

1. Color all 4 flasks. You can assign your own specific directions so the ideas are endless!

2. Cut out around the OUTSIDE of the flasks first (not along the dotted lines).

3. Fold in half and cut out the center piece. Be sure to cut along the dotted lines above the flask as well. You will see long dotted lines there.

4. Open the flask back up and fold towards the colored side.

5. Glue the insides together.

6. Optional: Hole punch and attach a ribbon to hang it or simply stand on a table!

If all else fails, you can cut them out individually, fold them in half, and glue all four flasks back to back to get the same effect. If you have any questions or require further assistance, feel free to email me at professordoubter@yahoo.com.
