What educators are saying
My students loved this activity and had so much fun completing all the task. It was fun to see them cheering on their classmates as the each tried to program the mouse.
This lab was super fun and gave me an excuse to bring my own kids hot wheels to school. The kids were able to see and calculate speed, distance, and time. This also engaged my students by conducted their own extra experiments.
Description
Great, engaging, hands on lab that help solidify the concept speed.
Students will collect data as they run hot wheels along a pre-measured distance and record the time it takes the vehicles to travel. The collected data is used to calculate speed and is compared to different hot wheels cars. There is a hypothesis to develop, four concept questions to answer per car (3 cars) that require pulling the material together then comparing data to additional data collected, and a summary/conclusion paragraph to write.
I use this over two 45 minute class periods.
