Description

This 65-page workbook for Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon includes vocabulary, comprehension, NINETEEN literature skills exercises, and a final assessment. The novel study is available as a PDF and has a compatible MODIFIED version for students with special needs or lower-ability students. Answer keys included.

Each chapter has TWO pages of work with fill-in-the-blank summaries (cloze reading), follow-up comprehension questions, and a literature skill focus. Skills covered throughout the workbook include:

  • making predictions
  • character analysis
  • setting
  • alliteration
  • similes
  • personification
  • onomatopoeia
  • cause/effect
  • foreshadowing
  • sequencing
  • making inferences
  • providing text evidence
  • compare/contrast
  • several connecting-to-the-story exercises

The book is divided in half, for two sets of 12 vocabulary words. Vocabulary work includes definitions, synonyms, word work, crossword puzzles, and vocabulary usage. There's a mid-book comprehension review, a movie vs book comparison guide, and an end-of-book test also included in the workbook.

The workbook is available as a black + white PDF, convenient for printing and great for coloring and drawing activities. A MODIFIED workbook is included, adapted with word banks, sentence prompts, short-answer options, and condensed matching. SPED students and struggling learners who’d benefit from modified curriculum can complete this compatible version ALONG SIDE THEIR PEERS completing the regular version.
