Description
Yes, your students CAN be engaged while listening to classical music-- especially when it's In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg. Whether it's fall or Halloween or any other time, use this piece to teach allegro + adagio, accelerando, or half note.
This resource includes 2 lessons: one for K-2 and one for 3-5.
The K-2 lesson teaches tempo. Use the beat play along video to move along with the music, learn the story of Peer Gynt, and learn the vocabulary words allegro and adagio. Students can take turns being conductors and changing the tempo. Then play on instruments!
The 3-5 lesson teaches half note, accelerando, and ritardando. Use body percussion and a move along video to listen. Learn the story of Peer Gynt. Learn about accelerandos and ritardandos. Practice being conductors and learning the 4 beat conducting pattern. Plus, introduce half note and use the half note play along video.
Also includes printable activities. Describe music with words or pictures, plus a coloring sheet-- perfect for a concluding activity or as a sub plan.
Printable lesson plan PDF for both lessons.
