TEACHING THROUGH FILM is hands down the best approach to teaching Sociology!

Description:

I love to teach sociology through movies. I spent weeks researching a movie that best suits the topic of socializing the individual, until one day it hit me: Batman Begins.  I made these movie questions and tried it out, and it was A HIT! The kids LOVE THE MOVIE and couldn't believe how much depth was to the movie. I adapted this from a book I once saw called "Cinematic Sociology" and that has been my favorite way to teach this.

Here's what you'll get.

This particular product is a PDF file that includes:

  • Move questions for the students to answer during and after the movie. The questions are divided into:
    • Movie questions- students are asked to answer questions about the movie with details from the movie
    • Opinion questions- students give their opinion on various elements of the movie
    • Application questions- students apply the sociological terms and concepts to the movie and find connections

Why is this perfect?

These notes are organized in the ways students love because: :

  • It's minimal- they write in bullet points of things they notice in the movie
  • Lets them enjoy the movie instead of worrying about answering questions and missing an answer!

Benefits:

This assignment:

  • Save YOU a lot of time to prepare
  • Gives students a differentiated approach to learning theories
  • The list form is easier for students to keep track of
  • Examples from the help the students to make real-life applications of the theories to their lives
  • Gets the kids engaged in a discussion after the movie.

Suggested Use & Duration:

When the movie is done, I:

  • Have students share some of the things they wrote down in their note-taker. Students elaborate on one another’s answers and write down new ideas for their note-takers.

WHAT TEACHERS LIKE YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT THIS LESSON….

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Malizza B.

"This was such a great way to start talking about deviance in sociology and the kids were thrilled that they got to watch a "cool" movie for once in class. I will be using this again for sociology, plus I loved that you could edit the questions which was awesome for my students with accommodations. ”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️JUSTIN COFFEY (TPT Seller)

"Utilizing a movie that lots of students like and having them look at it from a sociological lens makes them think a little more. Loved this resource!!! ”
