What educators are saying

My students loved engaging with this resource and discovering how inventions were made. They came up with some very creative inventions of their own.
This resource was great for our invention/tools unit. We used it after the Ada Twist Scientist/Rosie Revere Engineer text study where students designed inventions!

Description

This create you own invention project and activities will get your first and second grade students excited to design inventions that solve a human problem. Students will learn the definition of 'invention', learn about inventions (then and now), how they solve problems, and then brainstorm their own inventions. Use these engineering design science unit activities with your class.

I developed these activities in response to the NGSS standards:

  • Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a simple problem that can be solved by creating a new or improved object.
  • Define a simple problem that can be solved by creating a new or improved object.
