Character Traits Chart and Cards
Struggling with teaching character traits in Kindergarten? Kindergarten Characters is a resource that helps your students identify character traits. I was frustrated with my students' simple responses to describe characters. Everyone knows that Goldilocks is a girl with blonde hair. I wanted them to be able to do a little more thinking about character traits, so I created this character traits resource for kindergarten learners. I picked words to describe characters that five and six year olds can relate to.
Here is what is included…
- character traits chart
- 22 character trait cards with definitions
- 4 graphic organizers
- 6 favorite Kindergarten character cards
These print and use the character traits and cards right away.
Have your students give examples from the text to support to support the character traits they choose to describe characters. Use the character posters to create anchor charts. The cards and chart can also be used to describe characters during guided reading groups. My students love describing Mo Willems and fairytale characters, but these words can be used with any book. These character traits can also be used to help the students describe themselves.
Use the character traits cards or character traits chart to help your students develop the vocabulary needed to describe their favorite characters.
Use the character traits chart and graphic organizers to have your students record character traits of the characters that you read about.
What other Teachers are saying about my Reader's Theaters...
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Roberta B. says “Oh my goodness! I use this weekly! I teach kindergarten and teaching character traits can be so difficult. I pick a few cards and we decide if it pertains to the character we are reading about. We recently used this for Wemberly Worried. These are awesome. Will you be adding to this packet? We could use a worrier one. Haha. Thanks!"
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Linda H. says “Loved this resource to help with character traits. Graphic organizers to use whole group and small group and charts to make anchor charts were perfect!”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Elizabeth G. says “This was a great resource for helping my kinders understand character. We also use it for character education so that they can express how they are feeling. It is fun, simple to understand and can be used in so many ways through out the year!”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The Teaching Key says "A great resource to use in the classroom. Just had to print them out and laminate. We stuck them in the classroom for the kids to grab and use in their own writing after we talked about or learned about a new character trait."
