Description

This resource lets students practice their close reading skills and answering text-based questions. The story and activities are about the mystery of the Loch Ness monster.

Includes:

  • original article about the Loch Ness Monster
  • reading comprehension task cards
  • student response sheets
  • companion grammar/language arts worksheet
  • answer keys

Students first read the non-fiction article. The questions on the task cards can then be used for group discussion or independent work. They require students to go back into the text and look at the author's use of words, context clues, and text structure.

Skills addressed:

  • author's purpose
  • cause and effect
  • text features
  • prefixes
  • vocabulary
  • context clues
  • making inferences

The worksheet incorporates vocabulary and sentences from the text and targets skills usually taught in 3rd-4th grade: adjectives/adverbs, irregular past tense verbs

DIGITAL ACTIVITIES:

This product has been prepared for use in Easel. Students can complete the activities on any device. Embedded audio reads the article aloud making this activity accessible for all students. (Audio can be disabled by teacher.) For more information on Easel Activities see this GETTING STARTED GUIDE.
