What educators are saying

I'm trying to assess my students in such a way to include NGSS's 3 dimensions. This assessment fit the bill! Thanks!
The task assessments are awesome. I would love to see more of these for other middle school topics especially Earth science topics like relative dating, rock cycles, index fossils, plate tectonics, renewable resources, etc.

Description

NEW! This resource contains quality, EDITABLE sample assessment questions and performance tasks for the Physical Science Performance Expectation MS-PS1-3 Gather and make sense of information to describe that synthetic materials come from natural resources and impact society. It works for both in person and distance learning and includes 5 questions or tasks total which can be edited, copied and pasted into various forms of assessments to align to the NGSS. Links to other online resources to help teach the standard are also provided.

Use these sample questions for: pre-assessments, check-ins or quizzes, unit tests, and/or for your professional growth objectives!

The questions cover the 3 dimensions of the NGSS and include:

  • constructed response questions
  • performance tasks
  • questions with multiple components

This set of questions require students to use Science and Engineering Practices as well as Crosscutting Concepts to demonstrate understanding of the Disciplinary Core Ideas. The SEPs and CCCs are listed for each PE. Keep in mind that the tasks require more time than a standard test question, therefore, there should be fewer questions on a test which allows for more time to solve the problems.

SAMPLE QUESTION:

The rock, limestone, is burned in a process to turn into concrete. Concrete is another word for cement which is generally used in construction as building materials. Student A states that concrete is a natural resource, but Student B states concrete is a synthetic material. Who do you agree with and why?

This product includes:

  1. Background info on NGSS assessments and tasks
  2. 5 EDITABLE questions, tasks, etc.
  3. Answer Key
  4. Ideas for differentiation
  5. Links to external resources
