Description
These Multisyllable Flash Cards are 680 multisyllabic word cards broken into the six syllable types: open, closed, vowel-consonant-e, r-controlled, vowel teams, and consonant-le. Cards include two and three syllable words. Use these cards to teach or practice phonics skills and automaticity of reading syllables in isolation. These cards work well with any decoding reading program.
How to Use
Here are some ideas on how to use these in your classroom:
- Have students play the card game "war" with them
- Have partners time each other for reading the cards in any given syllable set
- Have groups of three or four play "shout out", where one student shows the card and the first student to accurately decode the syllable wins that card.
- Use 1:1 or in a small group for specialized phonics instruction
- Have students read the syllable on the card, flip it over, and then try to respell the word back
- Use for literacy centers
- Flip through the cards and have a student read to you to assess a student's fluency and automaticity with that specific syllable type.
- Use as flashcards for practice at home
