Description

These poetry analysis and comprehension worksheets in printable and digital format are an excellent modern and engaging activity to have students take ownership of their learning and dig deeper and closely read a poem. Get ready for National Poetry Month!! The no prep sheets can be used in isolation, or you could use several for one poem depending on what your needs are. You can have these ready and pull them out a moment's notice to conduct an amazingly in-depth lesson of your favorite poem.

Student Experience: The questions and tasks on these graphic organizers correlate directly with not only CCSS anchor standards, but also with higher-level thinking analysis skills on topics such as symbolism, mood, figurative language, structure, tone, diction, and more. They enable you to scaffold the poetry reading process and take students step by step deeper into poetry. I've used these worksheets in my room for years with easier poems such "The Listeners" or "Stopping by Woods" all the way to more difficult poems such as "The Chimney Sweeper," "Dover Beach," "Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night," and countless others. That's the best thing about poetry worksheets such as these: they work with any poem you have for any level of secondary students.

Skills included for analysis:

-Symbolism

-Meaning Across Texts

-Diction

-Comprehension

-Mood

-Figurative Language and Sounds Devices

-Imagery

Included:

- 10 printable worksheets (PDF)

- 10 ready-made-for-Google eworksheets (text boxes are placed for you, but are movable and editable)

- 10 Individual links for the eworksheets

♥ "Love that the activities can work with any poem! Can't wait to use them for the center stations that I have planned for my poetry unit. Thanks!"

♥ "This is a wonderfully flexible resource. I like how they can be used for many different poems, but also work for multiple levels as well. Being able to use them for different poems gives students the opportunity to analyze the same attributes of poetry with different texts."

♥ "Awesome resource - it's really useful that you can go through all the worksheets as a whole for a really in-depth look at poetry, or just break them up and focus on certain areas, depending on what your students need. Super easy to incorporate into your lessons."

♥ "I can't even begin to state how incredibly pleased I was when I used this with my class. The packets were easy to use as both formative and summative assessments for my students as well as having interesting and informative pieces for them to read. The questions aligned to standards wonderfully and I feel it helped make my student better prepared for our standardized testing!"

♥ "This was a fantastic resource to help my students prepare for testing and questions pertaining to poetry. I found the questions to be very similar to ones seen on state tests and the practice essay prompts really helped as well."

♥ "What a bargain! The activities in this bundle are worth three times more than the price. These are especially outstanding for differentiation."

♥ "I do a poetry of the week (similar to article of the week) with my students for 2nd semester. I like the resources in this bundle and am looking forward to using it after winter break. Thank you!"
