What educators are saying

I have incorporating daily mindfulness and overall activities to strengthen students confidence and self-image. This is an activity that they really enjoyed! It's great to have these to reflect upon. Will definitely do another one at the end of the year too.
My students LOVED this lesson and craft! They loved seeing their flowers displayed in our classroom! Would highly recommend!

Description

Teach and practice positive self-talk and positive thinking skills! Students will learn about the power of positive self-talk with a lesson, read affirmations, choose their favorites, and will use them to create their own foldable flower craft. Ultimately, this activity is a lesson and a tool students can use later on for a confidence boost.

Digital and Printable!

A digital version is included for Google Slides! There are a few different versions to help meet students' individual needs. Students will move flower petals onto a flower and type in their positive self-talk statements! A printable paper version is still included for students who need the hands-on experience.

Two Differentiated Reading Level Versions!

I have added a simpler reading passage and list of affirmations as an accommodations for your students. Choose the version that best meets the needs of your individual learners.

How to Use

  • First, the educator will explain and introduce positive self-talk with the student worksheet.
  • Students will read, practice, and select their top positive self-talk statements from the list or create their own.
  • They will write those positive statements in the flower craft. Students will then color and design their flower.
  • Alternatively, students can use pre-made samples with positive self-talk already listed.
  • Students will then cut out their flower craft and fold on the pedals.
  • Let students practice their positive self-talk by opening up their flower craft. Partners and groups can spend time reading each others'. Encourage students to read each others’ positive affirmations. This can be a great activity in small groups to discuss strategies and identify how positive self-talk can help.
  • You can also post these on a bulletin board, tape them on lockers, or post them on doors to fill the school with positive affirmations.

Lesson, Craft, and Tool

Best of all, kids can keep their Positive Self-Talk Flower Craft for times when they need extra support. They can use it to help them start the day on a positive note or when they are feeling anxious, stressed, sad, or angry. This is also a great activity to begin the year or complete during testing time to help with confidence and self-esteem.
