What educators are saying

Very useful resources. This is the type of exercises that only can be found in tpt, created by teachers. Thank you so much for creating such unique and helpful resource.
I use these on review days after initially teaching the prefix or suffix. I like the spelling section and the questions asked. The passages can have words that are a little tricky, and not as controlled, which I really like. It challenges all levels.

    Description

Teaching prefixes and suffixes in first and second grade can be challenging, but with the right activities, it can be easier! These prefix and suffix reading passages are designed to help your students decode different words with suffixes and prefixes.

It is so important for our students to see the reading skills their learning within a text. However, it can be a challenge to find the proper grade-level text with prefix and suffix words! That’s why these reading passages are perfect for that! Your students will become fluent with prefixes and suffixes, while also gaining confidence and mastery. They will develop deeper reading comprehension by reading the passage multiple times and with the comprehension questions at the end.

These prefix and suffix short passages provide opportunities for word work, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary building. On each page, students find the words, highlight them, and write them with the root word.

They are completely no prep activities! Just run through the copier and you are good to go for your lesson! These passages were written for 1st and 2nd grade students.

These passages are great for whole group work, small groups, independent work, reading centers, and tutoring. This format is perfect, especially if you don’t have a lot of time to devote to teaching prefixes and suffixes.

Suffixes included: ing, ed, s, es, ful, ness, ly, er, y

Prefixes included: re, un, pre, dis, non, mis, mid, under, anti, im, in, up, auto, over, super

    HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE EASILY:

There are 2 versions of each passage. One passage requires the students to write the base word of the suffix and the other passage requires the students to write the suffix of the base word.

IMPORTANT ABOUT THE DIGITAL VERSION: These passages included in the file are ideal for Google Classroom, Google Slides, and distance learning. When you purchase this resource, you will receive a download with the link to add these passages to your Google Drive. You do not need to have Google Classroom to use these passages. However, you need a Google Drive account to access them.
