What educators are saying

I work with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities and the more interactive I can make a lesson, the more successful it will be. Thanks so much for your hard work!
My students really liked this resource. It was easy to use and didn't require much prep time. My students were able to practice their skills and have fun while doing so.

Description

Your students will love Pizza STEM Project Based Learning (PBL)! It is a collection fun STEM activities that connects to many important math 5th grade standards, literacy, and economics concepts. This is a fun and tasty PBL. These projects are designed around the theme of pizza. Students research pizza and its history. (non-fiction text) Economics, literacy, and STEM (fractions and decimals) are all integrated into this week unit. You can either approach the math problems whole group or set up as stations. I have given you several choices on how to display the station directions. October is National Pizza month, but you can use this unit anytime in the year.

Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers. For example, recognize an incorrect result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that 3/7 < 1/2.
