Sequences and Series Activity - Who am I?

Objectives Covered

1. Find the recursive and explicit formulas of arithmetic and geometric sequences.

2. Find the nth term of an arithmetic and a geometric sequence. 

3. Find the sum of finite arithmetic and a geometric series 

4. Find the sum of an infinite geometric series. 

The activity gives clues to help students identify the first African American woman to earn a Doctorate in Mathematics. 

Directions for the teacher

1.  Print the task cards and tape them on the walls of your classroom or set up workstations around your room and place one task card on each station

2. Have students work individually or in small groups from one task card to the next as they record their work on the recording worksheets.

3.  Use a timer if necessary to pace your students from one problem to the next
