In this project, students will label every bone of the human body. They will then add ligaments, joint names, various soft tissue and skeletal injuries, and fractures to their skeleton. It is a great culminating review for anatomy courses that go in-depth with the skeletal system, or any exercise science/sports medicine courses. Students get very creative with their skeletons. There are several variations of this project, but this is specifically designed for the sports medicine student.
What do you get? You will receive two pages of instructions that tell students exactly what they need to add to their skeleton. This 3-page resource also includes a grading rubric. These instructions are specifically aligned to the Precision Exercise Science and Sports Medicine exam, but generally applies to any Sports Medicine EOPA/Curriculum.
What will you need? You will need multiple copies of this life size skeleton. Full disclaimer: that skeleton is not my creation and I take no credit for that! You will also need crayons/colored pencils/markers, scissors, and tape/glue!
How can this be utilized in the classroom? I use this as an end of semester project for my Sports Medicine students. It counts as a major grade for them, but it is also EXCELLENT review for the Precision Exercise Science and Sports Medicine exam. I allow students to work in pairs and ask them to work with someone that they don't work with normally to encourage them to use the time more for studying and less for socializing. To encourage students to use their creative flair, I offer five bonus points to the pair that has the most imaginative skeleton (voted on by other teachers).
How long will this take? I give students 2 - 80 minute class periods to complete their skeleton.
