Stolen Words A Story About Residential Schools Read Aloud UNIT
Ontario Educators recognize this day and hopes to see all schools wear their orange shirt in support of the First Nation Peoples.
This interactive read aloud will be a fantastic addition to your Reader’s Workshop. The book “Stolen Words” is perfect for your Social Studies Class and making cross curricular connections because it shares information with students about Residential Schools in a way that is age appropriate and easy to understand.
Students will be touched by this heartfelt story of one child’s experience preparing to leave for a Residential School and how it shaped her life. This would make a great read aloud for Orange Shirt Day or National Indigenous Day.

It is a time to acknowledge the abuse and cultural genocide suffered by the First Nations' children in residential schools.
