What educators are saying

I have been utilizing this resource to introduce my senior ELA students to the Victorian Era prior to their study on The Importance of Being Earnest. My students have really enjoyed this project; especially all of the different options to present their learning!

Description

For years I have taught A Christmas Carol, and each time I have tried to find an interesting way to teach my students about the Victorian setting of the novel. This activity I created has worked perfectly for my gifted students, but can be easily accommodated for any level of learning!

What I have created is a three-part activity that doesn't just give students a research project, but also a role as a character from Victorian England. Adding the personal element has allowed my students to not just remember the facts from their own presentation, but also from their "fellow characters." My students always get excited to

This common-core aligned activity involves a webquest over the basics of Victorian England, a chance for students to create a profile based on their Victorian Era character, and a research project where students choose a focus area based on their character's interests.
