Description
The resource is a perfect addition to the original volume city. Most teachers find that it's more challenging than the original as students are required to fit the building to certain perimeter and area dimensions. Also, each unit square is considered 20 feet. Students need to have a strong understanding of area and perimeter, as well as square feet, before attempting this activity.

There are three phases to this project.
Phase 1
Design where you'll be placing each building. You'll need to create the floor plan for each building. Identify the length and width to match the criteria. Fill out the length, width, number model, and area on the phase 1 sheet. You'll need to receive approval from the city office (your teacher) to proceed to phase 2.
Phase 2
Use the grid page to create nets for all of your buildings. Color and label all of the buildings. The length and width are already provided on the phase 1 sheet. You'll need to create the height. Once the nets are cut out, you'll glue/tape them on top of the area designs. Fill out the phase 2 sheet after all your buildings are placed.
Phase 3
Use the information from phase 1 and phase 2 to find the surface area for each building. Find the area of the use, sides, and top. Fill out the phase 3 page.
