Upper Elementary and Secondary Level
This packet includes an entire curriculum’s worth of activities for 32 words. They are designed to be used in a “word of the week format.” There are enough words for 32 weeks of school.
The 32 words are:
accept, affect, analyze, anecdote, appropriate, brief, cause, classify, consistent, crucial, depict, describe, determine, develop, devise, differentiate, distinguish, effect, essential, evaluate, excerpt, explain, formulate, identify, incorporate, infer, interpret, issue, outcome, perspective, relevant, specific
The words are comprised of tier 2 cross content academic vocabulary. I carefully chose these words from lists of most commonly used academic words in texts and on high stakes tests.
I use these worksheets and vocabulary routine with my students. I know these are successful because my students consistently score an average of 95% on the post assessment. They also continue to have high retention of the words.
