What educators are saying

This was reassuring as a first year IB teacher doing PYP Exhibition. Found it helped to keep us on track. Thank you!
This is extremely helpful as I head into exhibition. I have a clearer understanding and can use this to help students.

    Description

Digital file included*The IB PYP Exhibition! The big event that is truly a journey of discovery for the children as they work their way through this valuable process, culminating in a final Exhibition; presenting their work over the past few months as well as show casing their growth and knowledge over the course of their PYP education. This bundle of resources is here to help you, dear teachers, as you embark upon this journey with them. It includes the best selling Journey Through the IB PYP Exhibition Journal as well as presentations and interactive task cards to help with research skills. You will find a printable PDF version of the journal and the task cards and interactive digital versions. UK and USA spelling included.
I have designed this bundled resource as a guide and a working tool, using my experience with the IB PYP upper grades. There is no single way to implement the IB PYP Exhibition and, over the years and multiple schools, I have gathered a wealth of knowledge from my peers and my experiences. It is my goal to share these ideas with you within this complete resource.

    1. IB PYP Journey Through the Exhibition: Please note that it can be used as a step-by-step guide, with a suggested timeline, for those who wish or you can pick and choose what you prefer and mix and match the pages to suit you, your staff and your students’ needs. It is completely flexible. I like to print and bind a copy of the journal for each student. It can also be printed as required and the pages kept in student binders. Throughout, you will find that it is structured to encourage maximum independence and agency with your students. Please note that with the recent enhancements (2018) to the PYP, I have included the Attitudes, embedded within the Learner Profile.
    You will find sections covering:
Review and Reflection of the Essential Elements ( Three Pillars) - highly recommended for the first week of the process, ensuring the children’s understanding of each element as well as giving them a clear expectation of both the journey and the final outcome. It also acts as a pre-assessment tool. In addition, there are activities to reinforce the Approaches to Learning skills, particularly self management/social skills for conflict resolution.
Inquiry and Research– a step by step guide through the process, with graphic organisers for planning the inquiry, recording research sources, formulating questions, organising and recording data. This section also includes materials to use when planning which action to take with interview and field trip proposal forms for the children to complete prior.

    2. Developing Research Skills: Formulating Questions- Formulating questions is such an large part of developing an IB PYP inquirer. It involves more than simply writing out a few questions. In order for our students to get the most from their investigations and to further motivate them as they learn those 21st century research skills, we have to start by building their awareness of higher level thinking, conceptual thinking and the art of formulating questions worthy of investigating. This presentation is a slide show that I created as part of our ongoing, remote learning experience, specifically made for my grade 4s. It is suitable for grades 3-6. I have provided printable charts and graphic organisers to support the children as they edit their original questions, taking their questions to a higher level.

    3. Developing Research Skills: Sourcing & Notetaking - Developing research skills is integral to developing an IB PYP inquirer. It involves more than simply writing out a few questions. In order for our students to get the most from their investigations and to further motivate them as they learn those 21st century research skills, we have to start by building their awareness of higher level thinking, conceptual thinking and the art of note-taking, recording the important parts of their investigation.

This presentation lesson is a slide show that I created as part of our ongoing, remote learning experience, specifically made for my grade 4s. It is suitable for grades 3-6. I have provided printable charts and graphic organisers to support the children as they edit their original questions, taking their questions to a higher level. These are available in both UK and USA spelling. The slides are only available in UK English. The lesson is designed to be used AFTER the children have written their first set of questions for an inquiry or an observation lesson.

    3. Identifying & Analysing Primary & Secondary Sources: This resource will bring all of those higher level thinking skills together as the children learn to identify primary and secondary sources, understand the function of these sources and then apply what they have learned, using authentic examples of primary and secondary sources of data. By practicing media literacy and analyzing primary and secondary sources, putting it into practice, we are giving the children the tools and skills necessary to bring greater independence with their research. Perfect for preparation for the IB PYP Exhibition.

    4. Approaches to Learning Skills: Developing Research Skills Task Cards - These 36 task cards, now with digital versions and 18 additional digital slides, are a terrific way to actively practise the IB PYP Approaches to Learning skills needed for research and that we use continuously throughout inquiry based teaching. Covering data analysis, questioning, inferring, synthesising and much more, the task cards can be used in a variety of ways that encourage the children to reflect and think about the strategies for researching, with various scenarios and data that are easily relatable to them. As you help the children with these research skills in a safe, familiar environment, it will greatly benefit them throughout school and particularly as they approach the IB PYP Exhibition. A great review activity!
