Description

SMARTBOARD/NOTEBOOK ~ Do you have students in your school with severe life threatening food allergies? Have you ever talked to a student because they were being bullied because of having a food allergy? Do you have children with Eosinophilic Esophagitis? This interactive Smartboard lesson includes psychoeducational information that can be used in a small group counseling setting, co-facilitated with the school nurse. Food allergies are prevalent in today's society. The goal of the group is to give students the tools to be able to identify their food triggers, recognize signs and symptoms of having an allergic reaction and manage their reaction if they ingest an allergen. As a parent of food allergic children, I realized that I could protect them when I'm with them but as they grow, they need to be able to keep themselves safe and navigate in a food-centered environment. Strong connections are made with other children and support systems are created. The pages can be printed as a workbook for the students to use.
