What educators are saying

A great resource filled with so many ideas. As a newer PYP teacher, I really find the way Susan integrates all the elements of IB into her units very helpful and practical.

Description

How We Express Ourselves - As our children are inundated with media advertising from every conceivable source, this complete IB PYP unit of inquiry gives them an incredible insight, through the central idea, of how the media impacts our thinking and decision making.

This 90+ page packet is filled with trans-disciplinary, interactive, hands on activities that engage and promote questioning within the children. My 5th graders were thoroughly involved throughout this inquiry. It can of course be adapted for 3rd- 6th grades too. The interactive notebook activities maintain the children's’ attention as they inquire into the central idea through the key concepts of form, perspective and causation.

The lines of inquiry are:

Different forms of media

How does the media influence us?

Influence is an important part of marketing

You will find:

Prepared posters with a selection of media advertising

Methods of advertising, including hype, endorsement, call to action etc.

Interactive notebook activities for literacy

Geometry lessons integrated with product design and promotion

Reading and writing activities

Hands on experiments to demonstrate the design process

A summative assessment that requires the children to create their own physical product, market it and promote it to a target audience.

And much more
