    Description

In the past, I have used stations as my back-to-school activity for secondary English language arts. I enjoy using stations because they help get students up and moving, becoming comfortable with each other and with the space.

However, during our year of pandemic teaching, traditional stations were not always possible. This experience encouraged me to be more flexible with my back-to-school activities.

For this reason, when I put this bundle together, I focused on resources that teachers could mix and match. Some classes and teachers might use every resource. Some groups might use the station model like I do, but other teachers may use four resources with a different instructional model.

Regardless of how you use these resources, these back-to-school stations and activities will help you build community, get to know students, and start conversations about how you can work together to have the best year!

I have also included a few great resources for back-to-school organization! These are essentials that help me prepare for welcoming students back into the classroom!

To purchase these resources individually would be $23.42, but with the bundle, you save $4 and only spend $19.42, which is like getting two of the resources for free! That's 100+ pages to get you ready for the first day of school! Get everything you need for back-to-school stations and activities today!

Here's everything you get in this bundle:

Back-to-School First Day One Pagers: When I do back-to-school stations, this station provides students with a chance to express themselves. This is a very visual printable, so students can have some fun finding a way to introduce themselves.

20 Back-to-School Journals: In an effort to get to know students, build classroom community, and establish a culture of writing, I often use back-to-school journals. In this collection of 20 journal prompts, teachers can mix and match the prompts that best suit their students. The prompts focus on establishing a reflective culture, encouraging metacognitive thinking, and helping students communicate their needs and interests to their teachers.

Syllabus Scavenger Hunt and Syllabus BINGO: Reading the syllabus to students is (maybe) the most boring way to begin the year. However, some schools, like mine, require the syllabus go out on Day One. For this reason, I use one of these resources to make the syllabus a little more engaging. When I do stations, I use the Syllabus Scavenger Hunt. Last year, when the pandemic made stations and movement difficult, I used Syllabus BINGO!

Editable Canva Trifold Syllabus Template: Give your syllabus a facelift with this Canva template! This template will help you create an attractive trifold brochure. I love this template because it keeps all the important information on one page. The unique look helps students remember its importance!

Editable Canva Classroom Library Genre Labels (Spine Labels): In an effort to better organize my classroom library, I began looking for genre labels. I struggled to find labels that seemed appropriate for my high school students, so I just made my own!

These classroom labels are black and white and fully editable in Canva. I have included a variety of genres as well as ABC labels. This is the perfect way to organize your classroom library before back to school!

32 Coloring Bookmarks to Set Reading Goals: Independent reading time is an important part of my classroom. My students love having the time to read books and graphic novels of their choice! Additionally, my high school students also love bookmarks, and they love to color, which is what led me to design these bookmarks.

This is a perfect activity for setting reading goals during back-to-school, or you can use this activity to reset expectations in January!

Back-to-School Bucket Lists: Writing a bucket list at the start of the school year is a great way to help students prioritize their goals and dreams. These lists help students get to know one another, building community and relationships without a lot of stress!

Letter to Myself Writing Activity: One of my goals in the first few weeks is to get a writing sample from students. With this resource, you can encourage students to write a letter to themselves (either in the present or at the end of the year), which acts as your writing sample. This resource provides a quick, effortless rubric for grading students' letters!

ELA Goal Setting Graphic Organizer: Metacognition is an important part of student self-reflection, so we begin the year by setting goals about reading, writing, and behavior. This graphic organizer makes it easy for students to visualize their goals!

High School English Writing & Grammar Data Sheets: My classroom data wall is a favorite way to help students visualize their progress. These personal writing and grammar data sheets do the same thing on a smaller, more individual scale. On the first day, we complete the Grammar Inventory and chart our success to give us a sense of where we are right now and where we want to be soon.

First Impressions Book Reviews: Typically, I save this resource for our first class trip to the library. Students participate in a book tasting, and then complete a First Impressions Book Review. This gives students a frame for discussing their new books and helps me get to know their tastes as readers.

Technology Checklist and Password Tracker: At times, it gets overwhelming to think about all the digital tasks teachers have to manage before students arrive. To help manage that feeling, I have put together this Technology Checklist that I wanted to share with you! To help students keep their technology organized, I have also included a password tracker for student use. Both of these resources are fully editable in Canva, so you must have a Canva account to make use of these resources. These are two life-savers that help keep back-to-school running smoothly

Since these are Google resources, when you purchase this resource, TPT will create a file in your Google Drive where you will find the fillable .pdf, Google Forms, and Google Slides.
