What educators are saying

Even my middle school students love reader's theatre. I love teaching this read-aloud at the beginning of the year.
This was a fun twist on the regular book! My students loved the performance aspect especially! There was also a lot of good content to go along with it! I will definitely keep it in my plans for back to school next year as well!

Description

First Day Jitters? If you love the back-to-school book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg, your students will love performing the reader's theater script even more. Based on the events from the silly picture book, I have created a reader's theater and reading literature toolkit that BIG KIDS will love to perform in those first days of school.

This First Day Jitters for BIG KIDS resource includes:

• 2-page 4-character reader's theater script

• context clue word work

• reader response questions

• post-reading writing prompts

• an end of text project

• summary work

Your students will love starting off the school year with this fun take on this funny text. Have them perform in multiple groups of four in order to showcase their fluency and performing arts talents while working on comprehension, summarizing, and context clue word work.

Summary: Mr. Hartwell wants Sarah to wake up and get ready for school, but she is refusing. She is nervous to begin her year at a new school where she is afraid no one will like her. At the end, we learn that Sarah is not Mr. Hartwell's daughter, but his wife, a teacher, starting her school year at a new school.

This is the best way to start your ELA class for grades 4-8.
