Description

Your students will read ten sentences related to Martin Luther King, Jr. To answer the question, they will need to use context clues to decipher the meaning of a word. Words include: prominent, transformed, assassinated, barred, commemorate, snarling, brutality, and crisis.

I created this because I have found that not only my ELL's, but the vast majority of students at my school struggle with this type of question on multiple-choice tests.

********This resource is available in three formats:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute the pencil-and-paper worksheet.
  2. Easel Activity- With this paperless format, an interactive layer has been added to the original PDF! Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each sentence or paragraph and answer each multiple-choice question. Students move the circles to select their answers.
  3. Easel Assessment- Students complete this self-grading quiz on a device, as well. After reading a passage, students select the meaning of the underlined word from a list of four possible answer choices. With this option, the teacher chooses whether or not his or her students receive immediate feedback.
