Description
My students always seemed to struggle with coming up with main idea statements for non-fiction texts. They'd always write something like "how sharks hunt". They need to be more specific. This helps them be concise and to the point and also provides them with a means to start a short summary about a text.
This digital/paperless product can be used with any short non-fiction text. I used this with my Research Digital Notebooks (Tapping the Power of Non-fiction, Essay, Group Book) unit. Great for 1:1 classrooms!
With these slides students will:
- Learn how to write main ideas as a sentence/statement. They will have prompts and guidance to do so.
- Apply main idea statements to summaries.
- Gradually release from scaffolded statements to writing statements on their own with no guidance.
