Description

Welcome!

I am extremely pleased and excited to present the following activity that gives students an opportunity to research a most interesting mathematician: Eratosthenes.

* The activity begins with a brief definition of Prime Numbers, a visual map of where Erastosthenes was born, and finally some trivia and other interesting facts related to his life.

* The background information leads students gracefully into the assignment which requires them to research on their own and find specific information about Eratosthenes' early life, education, family and social life, profession, major accomplishments, and people who influenced him.

* A graphic is provided for the students to guide them in their research and they are asked to provide illustrations of their findings rather than the typical written documentation. The best part of all is that there will be a unique product for this assignment from each and every student.

* A complete outline as to how to assemble their garnered information is provided for student clarity.

* A bibliograpy section is included on the students' graphic to identify their sources of information

* A detailed rubric is provided for the teacher/student convenience making expectations clear to all.

* A total of 120 possible points are available for students to earn.

* Both the graphics provided for the students and for the teacher are extremely clear and easily understood.

* Students typically have a very fun time with this activity, and, when completed, their research can be displayed in the class room for all to enjoy.

* It has been my experience that students enjoy this small diversion in class as they journey along their ever-interesting path of mathematics.

* Please have a great time with your students as they dig into the fascinating life of this historic mathematician, Eratosthenes.
