Description

Can narrative writing be interactive and engaging? Yes! You're going to love this narrative writing lesson that also enables students to practice their contractions. Yep! It's a two-for-one special! If you have reluctant writers, you'll love how the prompt and activities along with loads of graphic organizers, and clear instructions will help all students be successful as they write about a day they were invisible. In addition to narrative writing and contraction practice, students will also get to do some fabulous revision work using the SCAMPER method.

SCAMPER is a creativity activity usually used with gifted learners, but you'll see that it works like a charm here to get *all* kids to revise their work. Yes, even those gifted kids who hate revising.

You'll love how students move through different kinds of learning experiences, working with partners, in small groups, and independently to create their narrative writing work.

Do you want low-prep activities? These are surprisingly low-prep for how engaging and interactive they are. Simply print, cut, and go! You'll get teacher instructions, classroom procedures, a key, and a rubric. The teacher directions are so detailed! You will have very clear, step-by-step instructions for what to do to teach the activity.

This narrative writing, revision, and contractions resource is perfect for:

CONTRACTIONS PRACTICE: In this activity, students will work in pairs to decide how to cut an match contractions to the words they stand for.

DAY I WAS INVISISIBLE NARRATIVE WRITING: In this activity, students will have cut hearts with prompts written on the backs. In small groups, students take turn reading what the prompt says and sharing with the group. They'll use their ideas to create their essay (using contractions, of course!)

REVISION: To help students revise effectively (meaning "without complaining"), this lesson uses the SCAMPER method that gives students specific things to change. They'll pick four of the seven ideas.
