Description

FUN FOR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING - Covers what a role model is, to what extent a role model is heroic, the importance of role models, the fact that role models don't have to be PERFECT, and why we should choose role models for specific purposes.  Finally, students complete a profile on a role model or role models so that they're aware of the active intent behind choosing the people who hold attributes that students could emulate to help them in various aspects of their lives.

Research suggests that role models are vital for tweens, but especially teens. Ensure your students are set with a role model who possesses attributes that will help them achieve personal goals, who will make them feel betterment is achievable and who will be the link between where they are now, and where they want to be. This is a perfect way to helping teens stay on track and is brilliant as an activity within any subject (I used it as a short break between units in my English classroom), but also for your tutor/home class where life skills and pastoral care are paramount.

INCLUDES TWO PRODUCTS:

  1. A student booklet which you can print for students to fill in by hand, or which can be shared online (eg: upload to your Google Classroom).  It comes in Microsoft PowerPoint, with the student booklet resized to A4 pages of course. This means it's COMPLETELY EDITABLE, so feel free to put your own spin on it!
  2. An editable, accompanying teacher PowerPoint presentation for your big screen. This makes working through the booklet together much easier. This presentation also includes links to short, relevant video clips.

My students loved this, and I joined in with my own booklet and role models. We all called on those role models throughout the year within our English classroom discussions. Many students enjoyed contributing to a classroom display by pinning their role model profiles for us all to see. And in an added bonus, we realised this activity, and our display, helped us get to know each other even better! We weren't expecting that, but it was huge!

Enjoy! Oh! Two quick things:
